My name is Ben Bakalyar, and this is my 19th year teaching, after stops in Clarksdale, Mississippi via Teach For America as well as Loy Norrix and Plainwell High Schools. I have taught everything from 6th grade math through AP Calculus, though my passions definitely lie on the more advanced side of mathematics. I received my B.S. in Psychology from Michigan State University, and I have a Master’s in Teaching Mathematics as well as extensive graduate work in finance.
My wife and I have two children who are 5 and 11, who manage to monopolize a great deal of our time. I run distance and obstacle races, play hockey and the cello, and have an unhealthy love of Michigan State athletics, for better or worse.
This year I will be teaching Math 2 and AP Calculus, and I’m really looking forward to getting to know all of my new students and helping them to move forward.
